Is your Glass Clean?

Imagine our souls as a lamp. When we are born there is no light in the lamp, the glass is dirty and smudged and there is no life there.

‘Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.’

But when God through the Holy Spirit shines the light of His truth into our hearts and souls, our eyes are opened and we see the filth left by sin and the deadness of our souls.

‘Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.’

Then as we flee to the Lord in true repentance, pleading for the blood of Christ to wash us clean and as the Father grants forgiveness, the lamp is washed clean and a flame of life is lit as the Holy Spirit comes to live in the believer.

Now, as the life and light of ‘Christ in us’ floods the soul, the wonders of redeeming love can shine out of the clean glass as a witness to the glorious gospel as we now walk in the Highway of Holiness.

Child of God, is you’re light still burning bright, is mine?

Are our feet still on the right path or have they wandered, allured by the soft meadow that lies so very close to the path that surely it can’t hurt to walk there , there’s nothing wrong there and it’s so pleasing and makes for easier walking?

How quickly we can wander from the path and the windows of our soul can once again become smoked by sin and smudged with the fingerprints of the world. Until soon, we can no longer see or feel Christ in us as clearly as we did at first and our light no longer shines as bright as it once did on those around us.

The word of God is like fuel to the lamp in our souls and it cannot be a light to our feet or a lamp for our path if we are not regularly replenishing this fuel to keep the lamp burning bright and strong.

Neither will the way be lit if our feet have strayed from narrow path.

Neither can the light shine out of the windows of our souls if they have once again become smudged and smoked up by sin and the world.

How we need that continual coming again and again to the Word of God that our souls might live and how we need to have our path continually lit by the Word of God and our feet kept so that that we don’t wander from the Highway of Holiness.

And if we wander, then how we need the Holy Spirit to convict us, that we might be coming again in true repentance, so that our feet might be set back on the right path and that our souls might be cleansed from the smudges that this world and sin have left and we might once again shine bright for the glory of our God.

Ah, friends, how weak we are, how quickly we get distracted by the world but if we are in Christ then Christ is also in us, to help us, if we just cling to Him and trust Him.

It’s impossible for us to bear fruit or keep ourselves, there is no point trying, in fact, God doesn’t want us TRYING, He wants us to be ABIDING and RELYING on Him alone to help and keep us.

‘Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: FOR WITHOUT ME YE CAN DO NOTHING’. John 15:4-5

‘No more ‘Me’, Lord, just all ‘Christ IN me’.

In Love,
