Have you ever longed to DO something for God?
Have you ever asked the question, what can I DO for God?
In the bible we read of those that asked the same question…
‘What shall we DO, that we might work (or do) the works of God?’
What did Jesus reply?
‘This is the work of God, that ye BELIEVE on him whom he hath sent.’
Friends what God wants us to DO is to believe on Jesus Christ, to trust Him, to have faith in Him and only from this can flow a right doing.
Believing isn’t just something that happens when we first look to Jesus as our Saviour, it should be something that we are constantly DOing every day. What we need to DO, is to increase our faith.
But how?
To firstly pray with the apostles…
‘Lord, Increase our faith.’
How does it increase?
‘So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’
Our faith is increased as we hear God’s words to us as written in His word, in the Bible. Whether as it’s preached or as we read and meditate on it.
Friends let’s for a moment suppose that you have some priceless heirloom jewellery. You’re going abroad for five years and you want to leave it with someone to look after, who would you choose?…..
Would it be the neighbour you’ve only spoken to a few times or would it be someone you knew really well and could trust?
Why do you trust that person?
I assume it would be because you have spent a lot of time with them and know them so well and they’ve proved themselves trustworthy.
So in the same way, this is how our faith grows, how our trust in Jesus grows. The more time we spend in God’s word, the more we lean on God, the more we commune with Him in prayer, the more our faith in Him will grow.
So if we want to DO things for God, if we want to work for God and serve Him, our focus needs to be believing and growing our faith by spending all the time we can communing with Him, even during the day, in all our busyness.
It’s from this friends that love will flow and increase and from love comes a willing obedience to DO the will of God but it all flows from faith, from trusting in, from believing on Jesus Christ.
A right DOing is only done as it’s done by faith in God, through God, for God.
