I am the LORD thy God…

It’s easy to hear certain phrases that are often repeated in the Bible and yet not pause to fully take them in.

There’s a phrase  like that, that was said many times in the Bible to the children of Israel but does it include us?

‘I am the LORD thy God.’

We first see it in Exodus 20 where God says this…

‘I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.’

Firstly we have ‘I am.’…..I AM!

This is actually the name God gave Himself when Moses asked Him who he was…

‘I AM THAT I AM:’

In Hebrew this is ‘hayah, hayah.’ Among other things, hayah means, exist, abide, remain.

Friends, our God IS. God always has existed and always will exist, He’s not only eternal but He’s eternally unchanging.

He abides and He remains!!

His love, poor fainting heart who cannot feel Him near, is the same today as it was when He first blessed you with a glimpse of His love and beauty. His love abides and remains.

‘I AM.’ – GOD IS! He abides and He remains, eternally, unchangeably the same.

Then this ‘I AM’, is followed by ‘the LORD.’, or in the Hebrew, Yĕhovah

‘I am the LORD.’

God is THE Lord.

Yĕhovah, the proper name for the One true God meaning, ‘the existing One’.

God IS… He always has been and He always will be. Our fickle hearts can be hot and cold all in one day but His steadfast, faithful, love and mercy endures for ever.

Then we have this little word, just three letters – THY

‘I am the Lord THY God.’

Friends, are any of you thinking,

‘I trust God spoke to me once and I believed He was mine but I can’t feel Him near’.

Have you been brought out from the bondage of sin and yet now you can’t feel your Saviour near and your mind is filled with doubts?

Does the devil tempt you to give up Friend?

Don’t listen to his lies, look what trouble it brought Eve when she listened to his ‘Yea, hath God said?’

If you belong to Jesus then He says this to you…

‘I AM the Lord, THY God.

‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:’

Did you hear? Did you follow?

If you did then this is true of you too…

‘I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.’

“Did Jesus once upon you shine?

Then Jesus is forever thine.”

‘I am the LORD thy God.’

‘Ah Friend, IS He your God?

Maybe you‘ve never yet been able to say that He is but do you long for Him to be YOUR God?

Do you long for Him to say to you…

‘Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.’

If you do, keep seeking because God will never turn away a soul who truly seeks Him.

If you have that desire in your heart then the Holy Spirit has given you that desire and Jesus said…

‘ALL that the Father giveth me SHALL come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.’

Keep seeking Friend, don’t give up…

‘And I say unto you, Ask, and it SHALL be given you; seek, and ye SHALL find; knock, and it SHALL be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.’

Ex 20:2, Ex 3:14, Isaiah 43:1, Gen 3:1, John 10:27-29, Luke 11:9,10.

I'm a Christian wife and Mum of two. I love to study my Bible and create God centered items for myself and our shop. I also enjoy a variety of crafts, reading and baking. We are all quite creative so our house is often a hive of creativity! I have several chronic illnesses including Lupus and Fibromyalgia so I am very thankful that I have been given a creative mind to help fill the hours when I don't have the energy for anything else.
