The Magic Porridge Pot!

Have you read the story of the magic porridge pot?

A little girl is poor and hungry and meets an old lady who gives her a pot and says tell it to “cook pot, cook” and it will begin to cook porridge, if she says “stop pot, stop,” it will stop. Now she and her widowed Mother have food and are no longer hungry.

One day the little girl goes out and her mother decides to cook some porridge. All goes well until she wants the pot to stop and she can’t remember the words. The pot keeps cooking, the porridge spills over until it fills the house, it runs out into the streets until all the village is full of porridge and keeps spreading until the girl comes home and tells it to stop.

A few days ago I was thinking about the love of Christ in us and this story came to mind.

Friends this is what we need.

For God to fill us with His love, the love of Christ in us.

We need the Holy Spirit to give us the desire to cling to Christ and help us to keep our hearts uncluttered by the world, so that Christ’s love can keep flowing into us and out of us.

To be filled so full with His love that it spills out and flows to everyone in our house, into the streets and flows to everyone in our neighborhood and into our towns and villages!

The more we lean on Christ, the more we draw near to Him, the more we will know and learn of his love.

This love, as it fills us and begins to overflow is the fruit of the Spirit, it’s something God produces in us.

And friends, we can keep going back for more, we can ask to know more and more of Christ’s love in us each day, just like the little girl with her porridge pot until the love of Christ is bubbling up within us and overflowing to all around us.

BUT for us to filled, we must be emptied of self.

Paul tells us this…

‘I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; YET NOT I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.’

This is the only way we can truly be happy friends, when our old self is crucified and we live for God, through Christ and His love bubbles up inside us and overflows to others.

Did you know that the literal meaning of the word translated in the Bible as ‘beloved’ is to ‘boil’.

THIS is God’s love to us, boiling, fervent and when we draw near to Him and feel a little of it, it not only fills us but it bubbles up and overflows to those around us.

Let’s be seeking to obey Jesus call…

‘If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me,’ that we might know more of Christ’s love in us.

Friends, let’s be seeking grace to deny ourselves, draw near and BE-loved of Christ, so that we might love others with this love.

‘No more ME, just ALL Christ in me.’

Gal 2:20, Luke 9:23.

I'm a Christian wife and Mum of two. I love to study my Bible and create God centered items for myself and our shop. I also enjoy a variety of crafts, reading and baking. We are all quite creative so our house is often a hive of creativity! I have several chronic illnesses including Lupus and Fibromyalgia so I am very thankful that I have been given a creative mind to help fill the hours when I don't have the energy for anything else.
