Stressed? Anxious? Busy?
As I was sitting with my Bible this morning, instead of what I initially thought I was to share today, I was led to the well known account of Martha and Mary.
Most of us will know this story well, Mary sits at Jesus feet listening to Him while Martha is busy serving. Martha becomes disgruntled and says to Jesus…
‘Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.’ and Jesus’ loving reply was…
‘Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.’
Today I realised that, so easily, my mind and thoughts become like Martha! They are racing here, there and everywhere, busy with to do lists and problem solving and endless questions and thoughts whirling around at a dizzying rate instead of resting on Christ.
How often are our minds filled? Yes, with good thoughts, things that need to thought about but NOT fretted about!
Friend, as we head into this busy season of the year are your thoughts so busy on all the things you’ve got to do, are you turning questions over and over in your mind, how to handle that problem, how to deal with the children, your finances, what to cook for celebration dinners etc, that you allow your anxious mind no time to rest at Jesus feet?
‘Be still and know that I am God,’ doesn’t always mean we have to literally stop everything, although it’s good if we can. It can mean stilling your troubled mind, laying your anxious thoughts at his feet in prayer and in the middle of your busyness, no longer striving to work it all out but to rest the whirlwind in your mind at Jesus feet.
Give your troubles to Jesus Friends, and sit at at His feet in set childlike faith, He’s already got them under His perfect, loving control anyway.
Give them to the Lord in prayer, He’s the One with all the answers.
Give them to the One who has promised this to those that rest in Him, His will and His way…
‘the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
He WILL be with you Friend, He will not fail you.
Be still, anxious heart and know that HE IS GOD.
Fight those restless anxious thoughts with prayer…
‘For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;’
Yes, even the strongholds of fear Friends, cast them down at Jesus feet and…
‘BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD!’
