Are you a fixer? If there’s a problem do you want to just get on and sort it out, fight for what you think is right or do what you can to make sure things go your way?
Something I’m constantly being taught is that, if we’re a child of God, we don’t need to and shouldn’t be fighting our own battles.
Jehoshaphat knew this and when trouble came he knew his own weakness and prayed this prayer…
‘O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: BUT our eyes are upon thee.’
What did God reply?…
‘Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s….Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you.’
If we’re born again we will have many battles to fight. There will be trials…
‘In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.’

There will be battles to fight against conforming to the world…
‘And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.’
Ah, child of God,…
‘greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.’
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.’
There will be battles against fear and doubt, but what does God say to us?…
‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’
Friends, if we know Jesus as our Saviour and are looking to Him, then we’re never alone, even when we don’t feel God’s presence, He still goes with us…
‘Fear thou not; for I AM with thee: be not dismayed; for I AM thy God: I WILL strengthen thee; yea, I WILL help thee; yea, I WILL uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
For I the LORD thy God WILL hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I WILL help thee.’
What sweetness and certainty there is in that little word WILL!
Don’t let fear of the unknown future make you dash ahead, trying to solve things and fight in your own strength and wisdom Friends…
‘For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’
‘Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.’
What a blessing it is that God has an endless supply of grace and mercy, for…
‘ He giveth more grace.’
it’s who He is…
‘Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.’
Friends, the enemy of your soul has many weapons and he knows our weaknesses better than we do, so how do we…
‘Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called.’
We fight through prayer just as Jehoshaphat did pleading with God to help us and fight for us, we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and what He accomplished for us, winning the battle over sin, death and hell…
‘But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory THROUGH our Lord Jesus Christ.’
God goes with us to fight for us…
‘For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
‘Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.’
So Friends, we see that we do not need to fight in our own strength and wisdom, instead, Christ who is IN us fights for us, we just need to look to Him in faith for that help, believing that He will indeed help us.
‘Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of HIS might.’ For…’If God be for us, who can be against us?’
